Discovering the value
of data economy
in European food systems

We need to address the lack of understanding of multiple aspects of the Data Economy for Food Systems in which data are not only a new economic asset, but a strategic good in the transition to sustainable food systems and to a fair and inclusive society.

We need to deepen our understanding and shared perspective of its development, performance and impact, using an interdisciplinary systems approach to avoid possible pitfalls and to ensure that it leads to a desirable future state.

The evolution of IT
in agri-food

A paradigm shift, towards a more responsible research and innovation and systems approach, which integrates technological and social aspects of innovation, is needed to navigate properly through the twilight zone towards a fair, inclusive and innovative Data Economy for Sustainable Food Systems.

Objectives

Data4Food2030 aims to improve the data economy for food systems by expanding its definition, mapping its development, performance and impact to create new insights and opportunities.

Case studies as real-life to map and improve the DE4FS

The Data4Food2030 end-to-end case studies provide real-life illustrations of the Data Economy for Food Systems at meso/micro-economic level. They are pan-European examples of available data sources, data technologies and data sharing that serve for analysis, mapping of stakeholders’ needs and identification of improvement potentials for promoting data-enabled business models.

Monitoring System

A system will be developed that describes and monitors development, performance and impact of the Data Economy for Food Systems in terms of possible scenarios. Mapping takes place from three different angles: (i) analysing the current state-of-play, (ii) policies that are expected to be adapted during the course of the project and (iii) a stakeholder network that is partly based on case studies but supplemented with other relevant groups.
